Unleash Yourself . . .

Yoda-Aim at nothing, and you’ll hit it every time.” . . . . This quote pretty much sums up how things will go if you do not have a positive mental attitude (PMA) before you begin any program involving Internet Marketing (IM). Whether you want to build your own website, build websites for others or have a blog with the intent of generating regular or supplemental income – how you approach it will determine the outcome.

Once you’ve made up your mind to move forward in Internet Marketing, you will want to put a plan of action together. In formulating this plan, you want to ‘think outside the box’ – unleash yourself.  Don’t be afraid to try something different. Consider making your ‘niche’ anything you are an expert on. Do you have special insight into something someone else might benefit from, i.e., medical, legal, family issues? Is there something you’ve always wanted to do but never had the time for? Any and all of these are possibilities for your new venture.

Due Diligence

–  Once you’ve decided on the direction, you must further investigate to see if there is money to be made in that market.

–  You will also want to check out your competitors:

  • Who are they?
  • What are they doing?
  • Do they have a website?
  • Do they have a blog?
  • How do they monetize?

–  You’ll also want to investigate the  various opportunities for making money depending on which direction you go – website vs. blog.

–  You need to become familiar with all the basics. You don’t need to be an expert in any of them, but you do need to understand the fundamentals of each.

  • HTML (Hyper Text Mark-up Language)
  • Graphics
  • Search Engine Techniques
  • FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
  • Word Press
  • RSS (Real Simple Syndication)
  • Familiarization with affiliate marketing ( yes, there’s more than one to research )

And, while moving through the process, should you come across something that ‘stumps’ you, don’t let it ‘stop’ you. Yes, by all means look for an answer but while you’re waiting for that answer keep moving forward with something else in another direction. Always be doing something productive.

Get Organized

Make keeping a record of what to do and when to do it one of your primary “to-do’s”. Once you get your business program started, you may find scheduling and co-ordinating all of the associated activities overwhelming. If that is the case, try keeping a ‘diary’ or online calendar to help you allocate time for each part of the project.

Internet marketing is a wide-open opportunity for anyone wanting to build a profitable Internet business as long as you are willing to approach it like any other ‘paying job’ you may have had . . . with dedication, conscientiousness, and a PMA. Approaching a new venture with anything less may leave you feeling frustrated and disillusioned.

Coming next  . . . .

Check back next week when we’ll be covering Word Press components such as plug-ins and widgets – what they are, what’s the difference and how to use them.
